1. What was the current need/gap that you were addressing?
Students do not have the habit of reading news regularly. Thus, they may not have a good grasp of current affairs. In Sec 2 LA Reading Programme, students read on a weekly basis, The Straits Times IN, a student publication. While there were learning tasks tied to this reading, there was opportunity for growth in sustained interest in current affairs.2. How had it been experimented and enacted?
Sec 2 HCL teachers conducted a news Kahoot in their respective classes to select a class representative. Following which, the LA and CLC departments (Sec 2 level teachers) collaborated to plan and execute the quiz. The Quiz took place in the format of a game show, where the class representatives were randomly grouped up and had to race against time to answer questions in both English and Chinese relating to current affairs. In addition, this is the first year Sec 3 BSP scholars were roped in to help in the setting of EL and CL quiz questions and also hosting the quiz on the actual day.3. Which group(s) had benefited?

4. What was the positive impact?
All Sec 2 students got a chance to participate in the audience round using Classpoint, developing a stronger interest in current affairs as a result. In addition, a class representative has also set a goal for herself to read more in order to know and understand what is going on in the world around her. Inter departmental collaboration between English and Chinese Department, with BSP scholars helping from setting quiz questions to stepping up as game hosts and event emcees. Quiz questions are varied, including MCQ, short answer and picture round, spanning various categories such as local, international, entertainment, politics. While selecting news materials, Sec 3 student organisers read extensively about international events and compared different news platforms. Despite the limited preparation time, Sec 3 student organisers managed it effectively to ensure the event's success. This experience enhanced students' global awareness, organizational skills, and leadership abilities.
5. What is a future need that this IdEas@work could meet?
This idea could be extended to other levels to build students' awareness and interest in contemporary affairs in both languages.
