3. Which group(s) had benefited?
Initiated On 10/17/2024
Completed On 1/10/2025
1. What was the current need/gap that you were addressing?
1. House system: The need to provide a platform for school wide bonding amongst students so as to foster a sense of belonging, encourage team work and positive competition. 2. Direct purchase from Taobao: Maximise the budget that has been allocated for the above event.
2. How had it been experimented and enacted?
1. House system: The houses were named according to school values and students from alternate classes were allocated to each house (e.g. students from X01, X05, X09 were in 1 house, those from X02, X06, X10 were in the 2nd house) and encouraged to work with one another through activities organised at class level, cohort level and school level towards a common goal -- rescue xiaozhang. 2. Direct purchase from Taobao: This year, we made our purchase for the cohort gift for 400 students through taobao.Students (Entire Cohort)
4. What was the positive impact?
1. House system: This provided a platform for the sec1 students come together within their class to take part in activities to help them to integrate into the Nanyang family and be supported by their xuejies and for the students in the whole school to take part in inter-class and inter-house competitions within their cohort to build school spirit and create a more supportive and engaging learning environment in school. 2. Direct purchase from Taobao: The budget that was given for this programme was the same as previous years and we were able to distribute a cohort gift (keychain) to each sec 1 student on top of the expenses that have been paid out for logistics and prizes. This year, by putting in our order through taobao directly for the cohort gift and other logistics we had to purchase for the programme, we cut away any agents fees we would have incurred if we had ordered from a local gift company. With the cost savings, we were also able to buy (more) prizes for BTS and the classes in the winning house, without busting the budget.5. What is a future need that this IdEas@work could meet?
This idea serves also as a test bed to explore the possibility of implementing a house system in the school. While the idea was not well-received at the preliminary stages, the school population gradually warmed up to the idea. The implementation of a house system in school can boost school pride and provide opportunities for mentorship where xuejies can mentor and support the junior students.Recommendation and Comments from panel:
The project provides another channel for connection between students across cohorts, so the scale is wide. While there is potential for positive impact in multiple areas, that still remains to be developed and the purpose clarified. Cost savings from buying directly from Taobao is also recognised in this evaluation.
