Online performances enabled parents to watch from the comfort and safety of home, and received good feedback from parents. The outreach was also wider this year as parents across all levels were able to watch the performances, where previously only Sec 2 parents were involved.

Objectives/Targets

To allow the Sec 2 Dramafest to take place despite the current Safe Management Measures (SMM) in place due to Covid-19.

 

To provide an opportunity, as in previous years, for the Sec 2 cohort to work together as a class, for one last class activity.

 

To provide an opportunity for the Theatre Club seniors to extend their own learning of theatre skils by mentoring their Sec 2 juniors, support one another & build shared memories.

 

Dramafest is also part of the Theatre Club and Audio-Visual Club training programme. In previous years, both CCAs co-produced the event; all members were engaged in learning how to produce a performance event. Though we cannot have the actual classes performing live, this will be the closest possible in allowing the CCAs to gain valuable experience in show production.

 

Although live performance is not permitted as yet, we propose to have the event in the form of a live broadcast, with the class performance pre-recorded in the form of virtual theatre. The live event will allow students to encourage their parents to watch with them in the comfort of their home. And as there will be live polling for audience choice, this will also encourage the whole school to engage in an event at the same time virtually.

 

Implementation Process

 

 

After their drama assessment, each class would have produced between 4 - 7 virtual theatre performances. Each class will then choose one of the plays to further work on after EOY.

 

After EOY, the classes will re-script, re-cast and re-film their class performance to submit for Dramafest 2020. The final work will be a recorded and edited version of their performance.

 

The Event will still take the form of a variety show, comprising of Showcase A (6 classes) and Showcase B (6 classes). There will be 2-3 student emcees to host the programme. It will be broadcasted live via YouTube(LIVE) at 7 pm each night. There will be a small number of audience made up of 3 representatives from each class.

 

Judges will be invited to judge the performances. The audience (live & virtual) will also be asked to vote for their favourite class performance via an online poll.

Dramafest 2020 was successfully broadcast via Youtube Live from the Studio Theatre on 26 & 27 October 2020. On average, we had an online audience of about 3000 per night.

As GCP resumes after Covid, there are many areas we need to review and to refresh memory for the staff and students, so as to ensure meaningful and safe cross-cultural learning from all the trips. The Sec 2 and Sec 3 cohort trips were massive and involved a large number of staff, including EAS colleagues. Safety SOPs have been revised by MOE as well, to take into consideration new developments and trends all over the world, and to focus on developing students and teachers e21CC.
