Objectives/Targets
|
1. To develop students’
motor skills and equipping them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to
pursue and enjoy a physically active and healthy lifestyle.
2. To design a curriculum
that provides students the opportunity to experience games in a
student-centered and contemporary manner
|
Implementation Process
|
The
Sec 2 PE PC was planned such that the cohort goes through the following each
Semester respectively:
1.
Learning the rules and basics of territorial (i.e.
basketball and frisbee) and net-barrier games (i.e. pickleball and badminton)
2.
Inter-class Games (ICGs) conducted during banded PE
lessons – Story format that progresses throughout the Semester
In
Semester 1, the students were taught the basic rules, skills and concept four
different sports as above-mentioned.
In
Semester 2, each class had to then sign up participants in the four sport
tournaments according to their strengths. The objectives of the story-based
ICGs are three-pronged:
1.
To apply learnt skills from Semester 1 and to hone the
game concepts / strategies against their opponents
2.
To bring out SEL competencies when the students manage
their class teams as well as the tournaments
3.
To increase the students’ intrinsic motivation for
self-improvement in the sport and their understanding of their game concepts
The
format of the story-based ICGs included challenging game tasks / quests which
bred resilience in and bonding amongst the students in trying to accomplish
them. The variables planted in the ICGs also allowed more opportunities for
weaker teams to succeed, hence encouraging them to not give up when they were
playing against stronger teams. Lastly, as the ICGs were student-centric, the
students’ awareness of game was heightened when each member had a role to
fulfill (e.g. umpire, scorekeeping, coach, etc).

Extent of Improvement/
Targets met
|
The
Sec 2 PE PC was planned in alignment to the school calendar. It was to
culminate with the EOY Sec 2 Post Examination ICGs.
A
survey was implemented at the end of the year to garner feedback on the new
curriculum. The survey results are as follows:
1.
78.8% was able to apply the skill and concepts taught in
Semester 1 into their games and quests in Semester 2.
2.
90.6% felt that the format of lessons encouraged the to
improve my skills.
3.
69.6% found that the storyline created is interesting and
this motivated them to try harder during lessons.
4.
79.3% felt that the quests and games prompted them to think and reflect on
the skills/concepts taught and evaluate their own performance
Looking
ahead, it is the department’s plan to refine and improve on the Sec 2 PE PC
for future implementation.
