Library Online Sign In/Out form

Image
Contributed by Wen Di Present Situation: In view of current COVID-19 situation, students who enter and exit library need to sign in and out, for better contact tracing. Currently they can use the sign in/out sheet to manually register info such as student name, class, time in, time out, etc. However, during the recess period or lesson time, we could observe the long queue to sign in/out, and sometimes students may forget to keep safe distance. Manually recording will cause long queue and extra time. What's worse, it could increase the risk of spreading the virus. Improvement: I have designed and made a simple Google form, students only need to key their name, class and indicate sign in or out will do. As the system will auto capture time and date, it saves a lot of time for our visitors. I generated QR code to link to the sign in/out form. Students can easily scan the QR code in the posters near entrance and biometric door on top levels. We still keep the manual form around in case

Contributed by TENG YUENG SHAN Present Situation: The target audiences were from the secondary 3 advance outdoor education students. During the entire term, we went through with them the various modules on Outdoor Education in order to prepare them for their OBS journey. Since the beginning of Covid, we had moved our Outdoor Education lessons online. Therefore, we will have to think of interesting finale activities to consolidate their learning. We have designed an online game show for the students to participate for their final lesson. The online game show is called “Jeopardy” (follow the famous popular American game show format) Improvement: The Jeopardy slides are created prior the lessons. In the slides there are 6 categories with 5 answers in each category (the categories are related to outdoor cooking, tents pitching, orienteering, knots and lashings etc). It was conducted with synchronous online lesson whereby teachers will log in together with the class to go through the game s

During the entire term, we went through with them the various modules on Outdoor Education in order to prepare them for their OBS journey. Since the beginning of Covid, we had moved our Outdoor Education lessons online. Therefore, we will have to think of interesting finale activities to consolidate their learning. One of the finale modules was for the students to apply their knowledge on their tents pitching skills they learnt before their HBL. In order to still have their practical session while they are on their HBL, we have designed an activity for them to still be able to practice their knots knowledge. Improvement: We designed an activity for them to execute their knowledge back at home. The students were supposed to build a shelter using whatever they can find at home and the existing structures they can found at home. The knots tying skill are upl

Online opportunities for SIAs amidst Covid-19 (e.g. Physics SIA)

Image
Contributed by ANG JOO LIAK Present Situation: The current Covid-19 situation makes it difficult for SIAs to have more student collaborative work, and enrichment via external learning journeys/workshops. Improvement: Online platforms can be harnessed to tap on opportunities for collaboration & enrichment: 1. External speakers can be invited to give online sharing (e.g. Google Meet) facilitated with padlet. E.g.: https://padlet.com/ang_joo_liak/women_in_tech 2. SIA students can be encouraged to sign up for online learning opportunities. E.g. Online DSTA Workshops (Jun/Jul 2020) - see signups at http://nyghphysicssia.pbworks.com 3. Students could bring home Arduino microcontrollers, sensors & other electronic accessories for DIY prototyping, supported by a. discussions on padlets, e.g. https://padlet.com/ang_joo_liak/dlbhq862jl1e b. DIY lesson instructions, e.g. http://johnlittle.pbworks.com/w/page/130434072/basics

Inviting Speakers for Online Sharing with students

Image
Contributed by Ang Joo Liak Present Situation: Due to the Covid-19 situation, it is not possible yet to have Community Partners in our school to share their expertise and experience with our students in workshops with interactions. Improvement: We can invite them to do such sharing and interactions online. Interactions were facilitated online with a padlet showing students questions and after-sharing reflections. See https://padlet.com/ang_joo_liak/women_in_tech

Seat Allocators

Image
Contributed by WONG WAN LING Present Situation: Due to the COVID-19 situation, there is a need to ensure that students practise safe-distancing in the canteen when they are queuing up to buy their food and when having their meals. Challenges presented due to the current situation: - The queues are long and there isn't much space to accommodate long queues especially with the requirement to stand 1m apart or double queues (for purchasing of different types of food/ for ordering and collection). - The number of tables and benches at the canteen is not able to accommodate the number of students during some recesses/breaks as only 4 students can sit at one table. - Insufficient spray bottles for soap solution. Staff and students use the soap solution when wiping down the tables after meals. Improvement: Here is the list of all the colleagues who have been working on this since March. 1. Annie Koh 2. Caren Hui 3. Mrs Chek 4. Lim Wan Cheng 5. Andrew Ong 6. Jeremy Low 7. Tan Kah Keow 8. C

As the room is small, parents who came with the girls have to wait anxiously outside the room till the series of briefing have ended. Improvement: Suggest to assign a bigger venue eg Conference Room B or C or S4-07, so that the parents can sit in at the briefing with the teachers and students and understand the JAE process as well as offer moral support for their daughters.

Image
Contributed by ANG JOO LIAK Present Situation: The survey was done in 2019 but results of the survey (Teaching and Learning section) were not released to the staff for discussion and further actions. Improvement: The results of this annual Teaching and Learning related items could be collated, analysed and used for staff discussion and further actions in end of year December staff meeting. Election Role Play Game

Image
Contributed by TEO HUI LIN LENA Present Situation: Idea of peoples’ aspiration and how this is linked to self-determination is not easy to teach to students even for the GE students especially given time constraints. • There is also a need to enable the GE students to understand the concept of voting and the responsibility of voting without making it sound like a piece of propaganda. Improvement: Create an Election Role Play Game to not only teach history but to expose students to the experience of voting. This game was able to not only teach them about history but also the rights and responsibility of a citizen in a short span of time. Students in their reflection showed their own assessment of what they used to think and what they now know as well as the realisation of what they need to do as a citizen through the experience.
