Objectives/Targets
|
To document and share innovative Science
teaching and learning practices including technology integration with staff
of other departments via a short video.
|
Implementation Process
|
1.
On 26 April, all Science teachers (of all levels, regardless of
whether the class was using iPads) were invited to share their best
practices. This included several teachers in iPad classes who already have
video clips done by Marcus or themselves, and teachers teaching GE classes who
have shared interesting practices with Olivia.
2.
Teachers used a shared Googledoc spreadsheet to indicate details of
items to share (topic, context, pedagogy, use of technology, relation to
learning principles, etc.) and put the raw materials into Marcus e-pigeon.
3.
On 6 May, Science teachers
met and agreed on 4 broad themes to share their best practices in using
technology
·
Experiential learning: e.g. hands-on activiites, out of classroom, role-playing,
inquiry-based learning
·
Flip classroom: e.g. using videos or other online platforms
·
Formative assessment: e.g. online quiz, gathering students' response, giving immediate
feedback.
·
Use of authentic learning materials: e.g. news articles, real-life applications
4.
By 10 May, teachers shared
their contributions through selecting,
captioning and putting suitable related images/video clips into Marcus
epigeon. They could consult Sandy, Benny, Mark, Eric or Joo Liak for
assistance.
5.
Marcus collated the materials
contributed into a video, and vetting was done and feedback was given by
Sandy, Benny, Eric and Joo Liak.
6.
Joo Liak shared the final video
with a slide presentation during staff contact on 15 May.

Extent of Improvement/
Targets met
|
1.
The following items were
posted for sharing on the science wiki at http://johnlittleipad.pbworks.com
·
the presentation
slides of the staff sharing on 15 May
·
the video link of
video posted on Youtube
·
the more detailed
description of items from teachers in a Googledoc
2.
This project generated
greater awareness amongst the science teachers that:
·
there are many
different tools and platforms that science teachers are weaving into their
classroom and out-of-classroom instructional practices;
·
there are many
experts amongst us, for sharing of ideas;
·
this was an
opportunity for us to document our own practices as part of our professional
development portfolios, especially in digital formats.
3.
The video was
shown during Open House at Biology Lab 4.
4.
The video was
also shown by Dr Tay-Seah HY at the Digital Education Show in KL on 27 May.
5.
With greater confidence in
integrating technology into teaching and learning, several science teachers (Benjamin,
John, Joo Liak, Sandy, Mark) have volunteered to share some of their best
practices of using technology tools in the coming end June Staff Workshop “P21C2
– for teachers from teachers” on 27 June.
