1. What was the current need/gap that you were addressing?
To provide a platform for interaction between students who take Literature in Chinese or are interested in Chinese Literature from different schools. To promote an interaction between writer from Malaysia and students and writers from Singapore. To cause awareness for local students about writing among writers beyond the local arena. To increase the interests and level of appreciation of local students in the area of Chinese Literature. To level up the assessment literacy of literature teachers among different schools.
2. How had it been experimented and enacted?
We collaborated with HCI and Singapore Association Writers to hold the second Literary Forum, which attracted more than 300 students from nation-wide schools. We invited 1 Malaysian writer and 1 Singaporean writer to be the keynote speaker with the theme “River and Literature” and 4 other Singaporean writers to take charge of small group interactions and guided the participants to produce creative literary pieces of work. We also invited a NIE lecturer to share her expertise on authentic assessment on literature teaching.
3. Which group(s) had benefited?
Students (Selected Groups), Teaching Staff (Selected Groups)
4. What was the positive impact?
From the survey, the participants have enjoyed and learn a lot from the forum. They were also able to produce pieces of creative works. Teachers who attended the workshop were inspired to apply what they have learnt in their own classrooms.
5. What is a future need that this IdEas@work could meet?
To promote appreciation of local literature and creative and critical thinking. To further inspire our students to be future Chinese writers.
