There is no such video to begin with , hence Principal mooted the idea that R&H could produce a video for use when we travel overseas to recruit scholars. What better way than to let them see for themselves and hear for themselves from the horse's mouth. After discussing with Mark Tan and NYAV, we took on the project.
Olivia and Verane are the two students in charge and they worked closely with Mark and me to brainstorm and draw up the storyboard. They had to research and try out new techniques. They also learnt from Mark Tan. Then they also discussed questions for interviewees with me and we worked on the edits as a team. Sometimes we had to make the painful decision to not use a take and then try a different approach. There were obstacles but the girls were able to see them as opportunities for growth. The video was well-received when Principal showed them in ASEAN countries.
Students (Selected Groups), Stakeholders in ASEAN countries and our own scholars as well as NYAV students
The team shared that they felt empowered to decide the direction of the video. They felt it was a large scale project that challenged them out of their comfort zone and they felt it was all about student voice. They learnt how to mobilise the whole school for the drone shots, and they learnt to interview scholars, and PSG Chair. They felt they had many opportunities to innovate and adapt and they felt that it was a fruitful and exciting experience, one they never ever had before. Principal also shared that the video was well-received by the schools she visited and the potential parents who viewed the video.
We can use it for recruitment of scholars. We can also share this project with other schools so they can learn from us on how to create a meaningful platform for student empowerment where the student voice is loud and clear and their talents and passion are harnessed.
