Completed On: 4/24/2024Currently the visitorship and usage rate of library space is slightly on low side. We intend to bring back more students to library via different means such that they could make better use of library space for collaboration, studying, learning, activities, etc.
There is a group of PSG (20 pax) helping library regularly with book processing, wrapping, etc. While I always believe that with the talents and creativity, PSG could contribute much more to school community in various programs. In Jan, I discussed with Angie (PSG EXCO i.c. lib) about the possibilities in engaging PSG in various library programs to raise the library user awareness and increase the usage rate of library resources (space, facilities, etc). We roped in Sylvia in discussion and brainstorming, and worked out a draft proposal (Bookmark making workshop @ Library) to be submitted to school for review and approval. Benjamin and Mae were very supportive about Angie's proposal and suggested the possible dates/timing for the workshop. The publicity emails were sent out by FOA team before the workshop. The materials were bought. And we had a dry run amongst us to practise. Sylvia made an instructional demo-video for the session. We spot recee and identified 3 areas at library entrance level for the workshop. All the logistic preparation (tables/chairs set up, etc) was done on the morning of the actual day. The workshop takes place on 24 Apr, 1130-1230 combined resess. There were 8 PSG volunteers facilitated and supported the workshop. The workshop was very well received amongst our students. Beyond our expectation, there were more than 100 students participated in the workshop. All the materials (100 sets of bookmark making materials) were used up within 45 min. Quite a few late comers were a bit disappointed as they couldn't join us due to lack of materials. It's very heart-warming that a few girls mentioned that they made the bookmarks for their moms as the gift for the upcoming mothers' day:-)
Students (Selected Groups), Students (Entire Cohort)
The workshop was very well received. PSG made the survey QR code for students to put in feedbacks. 25 feedback forms were received. 25 out of 25 responses showed that they did enjoy the craft session (5/5: 22 responses; 4/5: 3 responses). 25 out of 25 responses showed that they would like to see similar craft session in the future (5/5: 21 responses; 4/5: 4 responses). 4 comments were made that they love the bookmark and the craft session. 3 students suggested we should prepare more materials in the future sessions to allow more students to participate in the workshop.
It's our first collaboration with PSG to conduct workshop for students at library, in order to increase library usage rate and raise the library user awareness. We are planning similar sessions in the future to bring back the students to library. The workshop was well planned and implemented. The craft session in bookmark making is therapeutic and fun for our girls to relax and recharge themselves in WA period. We may consider to work out a few more sessions to improve the well-being for our girls.
Remarks: To include the 2nd craft session on mosaic coaster by PSG as 1 IdEas@Work and award Stage 3. Position as a series of 2 craft sessions.
