Lower Sec students lack understanding and/or exposure to how smart devices/systems in their environment work. This include sensors that ensure liftdoors do not close on passenger, shopping mall doors open for shoppers, taps turn on without knobs etc.
Yes. the content and hands-on activities with project work are currently offered to Sec 3 students in the Arduino SIA and Sec 4 Advanced physics students. The basic workshop provides students with opportunities to learn basic coding with microcontrollers, build simple "smart devices" and understand how they work, as a prelude to learning about IoT (Internet of Things).
Students (Selected Groups)
The Sec 2 student participants found the workshop useful and enjoyable. Attached are the feedback Google form (uploaded with item 2) and the responses (with item 4).
Students can be introduced to the basic ideas of coding, "smart" devices/systems and IoT, which are part of STEM education. This is part of the effort to encourage female students to cultivate their interest in STEM-based careers which are currently male-dominated.
