SMM in PE

Present Situation:

Having to adhere to SMM in PE, the Department had to rethink space configuration, sanitation procedures and curriculum delivery for PE in NYGH.

Improvement:

To strike a balance between maintaining SMM as well as keeping the students engaged, PE lessons were redesigned with purposeful space demarcation, structured wipe down procedures and deconstructing PE activities so that students could still keep themselves active within safe parameters of learning and Covid measures. Indoor spaces were marked out into grids for the students to move around in. The grids were designed such that it could be used across most sports in the PE curriculum. In addition, a new spin was put into the usual lessons (e.g. Floorball became human foosball lessons). Net barrier games lent themselves well to the SMM situation. When the Covid SMM were relaxed to include more numbers (i.e. 5), the spaces and games were again reconfigured to allow for that to happen.
