Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we could not hold the annual National Day Observance Ceremony at the quadrangle like what had been done in previous years as mass gatherings were still not possible.
Improvement:
An initial idea was to arrange for the parade (marching in of the National Flag and School Flag, flag-raising ceremony and recitation of the pledge) to be carried out by a small group of Uniformed Group members and live fed from the quadrangle to all the classrooms via video streaming. After further discussion, it was decided that the entire parade segment will be pre-recorded and then screened via YouTube on the day of the school celebration on Friday, 7 August. The planning and execution of the entire segment was carried out by the following groups of people: 1. Teachers from the 3 Uniformed Groups, 2. National Education Team, 3. Mark Shone, the AV Students and Michael Chang, and Mrs Chek provided us with guidance.

What was the current need/gap that you were addressing? 1. House system: The need to provide a platform for school wide bonding amongst students so as to foster a sense of belonging, encourage team work and positive competition. 2. Direct purchase from Taobao: Maximise the budget that has been allocated for the above event. 2. How had it been experimented and enacted? 1. The initiative addresses the need to broaden students’ exposure to diverse Chinese media and deepen their understanding of global and regional issues. While students traditionally rely on Lianhe Zaobao for news, this limits their engagement with other reputable Chinese media outlets or official translations of global reports. Additionally, there is a gap in students’ awareness of ASEAN-related developments, which are crucial given Singapore’s regional context. By incorporating non-Zaobao articles and ASEAN-focused content, the program encourages students to explore varied perspectives, enhance their language skills, and develop a more comprehensive understanding of both local and global current affairs. 2. How had it been experimented and enacted? Every week, the student news broadcasters select articles from...
Department/Committee/Team: CCE + GCP + Regional Studies Leader(s): Aloysius Foo Member(s): Annie Koh, Delphine Tan, Norazlina binte Abdul Jalil, Liew Chiat Siang 1. What was the current need/gap that you were addressing? The project addressed a gap in how International Friendship Day (IFD) was traditionally commemorated, which was typically through Kahoot quizzes or student-led presentations on other countries. While informative, these activities were largely passive, surface-level, and lacked authentic engagement with peers beyond Singapore. As a result, students had limited opportunities to develop deeper cross-cultural skills, global orientation, and an appreciation of Singapore’s geopolitical realities. Our rapidly evolving global landscape demands more than factual knowledge; it requires students to practise openness, empathy, and international collaboration. In other words, there needs to be a deeper effort to ensure that the IFD objectives are attained. 2....
