CBCI Department Conversations during PD

Present Situation:

CBCI has been one of the PD areas of focus for EO since 2017. After embarking 3-year of having Jennifer Wathall to train all teachers in CBCI in 2017 - 2019, this is the first year when we moved into in-house development of CBCI. This requires Dept to have consolidated approach to plan the units and implement the strategies in the classrooms. On 2 April, Luis and Sharon sat in the Acad Heads meeting and we learned that the Dept needs the time to reflect on the current approach to CBCI, have a closer look into the characteristics of CBCI lessons that have been shared by the curriculum specialists, and align the approach to the change of curriculum such as new syllabus, blended learning, etc.

Improvement:

With all these considerations in mind, we conceptualised a series of Department conversations during school-wide PD time, to give every Department time and space for them to learn about CBCI characteristics, reflect of the current practices, and devise a plan moving forward. We put in place 2 long PD sessions in T3W3 and T3W7. The 1-month interval in between is intentional to give space for Department to do follow up on the first discussion as well as observing the practices. For these 2 sessions, the SSD gathered the plan from each Department for the 2 sessions. The plans and sharing were compiled and shared with the HODs as well as the STs in order for them to have a bigger picture of the school-wide effort and learn from the different moves by different Departments. With the involvement of HODs, Academic SHs, and STs in every Department conversation, that facilitates the plan for Curriculum Review during the Staff Planning Seminar in September 2019. On the PD side, we will continue to see this broad picture and continue to support by planning the time and space for the conversation and work closely with the Curriculum Specialists, Acad Heads and STs in this area.
