Blended Learning in PE

Contributed by LIM TING FANG

Present Situation:

With the Covid situation, there was a call for blended learning for all subjects. There was a need to respond quickly as well due to the unpredictable developments in the Covid situation.

Improvement:

In our subject matter of Physical Education, having to rethink how our curriculum could still be delivered in the confines of our students' home "forced" us to think out of the box and seek out sharing of best practices via virtual conferences and online platforms. Aside from the theory part of our sports to be delivered during HBL, the students were also engaged in physical activities at home through a myriad of lessons that involved chair exercises, physical challenges, video analyses, designing of own workout via the FITT principle. Our objectives were multi-pronged - to be able to infuse blended learning in PE by complementing our physical lessons with theory lessons (i.e. psychomotor meets cognitive) as well as to inculcate self directed learners in PE (especially when the instances of HBL happening in the future is likely and it is hoped that students would continue to find ways and means to be physically active even away from school).
