Age of Uncertainty VR Art Exhibition

Contributed by Sarah Choo

Present Situation:

The Secondary 1 AEP students, have been engaging with various modes of art lessons during these past few weeks of home based learning. They embarked on a module to create Cubist Self Portraits using materials found in their homes to don themselves into the characters in the cubist artwork. Given the HBL mode of learning, it also gives students the space and time at home for this creative work. Students were given one week to create their art pieces after being guided by their Art teacher via a video tutorial. The students have produced commendable pieces of artwork that have caught the attention of the Zaobao Student Publication (under zbCOMMA which is an independent Chinese news-magazine distributed to schools on alternate Wednesday and hopes to develop young readers to Lianhe Zaobao reading when the students are older). The article, which features a few home-based learning sharing by a few schools, is published in zbCOMMA. The students have since initiated a Virtual Art Exhibition titled 'The Age of Uncertainty', on an online platform to exhibit their works of art, which will be put up for sale. 100% of the net proceeds will be given to the chosen local beneficiary/beneficiaries in the capacity of Nanyang Girls High School following from the Fundraising Project.

Improvement:
All 18 artworks have been sold and $500 has been raised for communities affected by the Covid19 Pandemic. This art lesson and Virtual Reality exhibition is published online and in ZBCOMMA papers. This platform was also shared with the SPICE team. Subsequently, the NYGH sec 2 SPICE projects were also exhibited on this platform. NYGH has been nominated t shared this lesson and its outcomes at the 2020 Art Coordinators’ Meeting (Sec/IP) between the 28 September 2020 to 1 October 2020.
