When Covid-19 situation started in January, the mood and emotions of the school was affected. There was sense of fear and anxiety especially among students. In the first few weeks, the teachers had engaged students in various conversation including using MOE lesson package, updates of current knowledge, and give them personal space to express their worry and fear. As much as we understood that it would take some time for people to embrace and overcome the situation, we felt that initiatives from students to bring positivity to the school will be more impactful. And it is also an opportunity to teach students the right values of humanity, love and care and exercise them through their actions as agents of change.
Improvement:
The idea came from my discussion with my form class 413 after I shared with them the notes written by Maha Bodhi students to frontline staff that was posted online on 1 Feb 2020. They were touched by the messages given by the students and felt that they could do their part to respond to the Covid-19 situation with love and care. The class came up with 3 ideas: 1) to write positivity notes to our 9 students who are on LOA, 2) to create positivity video to boost the mood of everyone in the school, and 3) to invite the whole school community to create gratitude video to the frontline staff. I discussed project number 3 with Sabrina (Positive Education) and Wan Ling (Student Leadership) and we decided to embark on collaboration with the BOM and Students' Council to create whole-school gratitude video for frontline workers. We planned and infused it to CCT package and had the BOM and SC conducted it on 5 Feb, ie getting the whole class discuss the Covid-19 situation and invited them to express gratitude to the frontline staff in video recording. All permissions were sought so that only those who felt comfortable taking part in the video. We also invited staff to take part. The video (https://youtu.be/njWc5JA55pA) was sent to our MOH contact which was subsequently forwarded to all healthcare and frontline workers on 26 Feb 2020.
